Aston Villa vs ArsenalOllie Watkins' goal gives hosts 1-0 win over Gunners

Arsenal succumbed to a second successive defeat in the Premir League after succumbing to a lowly 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, February 6.

Villa striker Ollie Watkins scored the only goal in the game 755 seconds into the game to help his side complete the double over Mikel Arteta’s men.

Arsenal looked to bounce back to winning ways after their controversial defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers but they got off to the worst possible start.

A defensive mix up saw the Bertrand Traore in on the flanks as the Burkina Faso winger fed the ball to Watkins who made no mistake as he bagged his third goal in as many games.

Villa were fairly comfortable after taking the lead and did not mind sitting back and attempting to hit Arsenal on the counter.

Arteta introduced Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the second half in the place of Alexandre Lacazette in the hopes of turning the game around but the Gabon international was not in his best form.

Regardless, Arsenal were a much improved side as they attacked with more intent after the break but their former player Emiliano Martinez was in inspired form on the day.

Villa also had some spells of resolute defending as Tyrone Mings blocked Emile-Smith Rowe’s effort while Bukayo Saka was also denied by Matty Cash.
