Protesters stormed the police headquarters on Saturday, demanding to meet with Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police to protest the intimidation and brutality by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
They had vowed to spend the night there, refusing to listen to the plea of the officers who addressed them.
The protesters had brought foods and drinks in preparation for the overnight activity.
But they scuttled to safety as soon as the police released teargas canisters on them.
Some of them were reportedly arrested and manhandled by the officers.
