Three injured, several vehicles destroyed in Lagos gas explosion

Three unidentified persons were severely injured in a gas explosion that occurred on Wednesday on the Alakoso Industrial Estate, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the explosion also affected seven vehicles made up of four cars, a bus and two trucks.

The incident occurred when one of the trucks was conveying oxygen gas cylinders from a gas company in the area to hospitals.

Our correspondent learnt that emergency responders at the scene were the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service.

The Head, Public Affairs Unit, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, who confirmed the incident, said the cause of the explosion had not yet been ascertained.

He said, “Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that an explosion occurred in one of the trucks used in supplying oxygen gas to hospitals from the gas company.

“Emergency responders were able to extinguish the inferno before it extended further and a brief post-disaster assessment was done, which revealed that three male adults sustained varying degrees of injury and were taken to the Gbagada General Hospital; four cars, one bus and two trucks were affected by the explosion.”
