Veteran actress, Fausat Balogun, aka Madam Saje, has said because of the nature of their job, it would be difficult for actors to practise social distancing. She told Sunday Scoop.
COVID-19 pandemic has affected everybody, even beyond the movie industry. Just that in our case, it’s hard to practise social distancing because our job requires close contact, especially when we are shooting and there are many people around. Even now, I always go around with my face shield and I don’t move close to where people are gathered.
“In the movie industry, if we don’t work, we wouldn’t eat. You can imagine what happens when we don’t work.
“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we had been calling on the government to support the entertainment industry but they don’t seem to have our time yet. Maybe after COVID-19, it would be our turn.”
Sharing her thoughts on the claims of sexual harassment in the movie industry, Balogun said, “I have always been asked this question and I always say it’s a lie. Doctors and nurses sleep with one another and people in other industries do the same. Why is it that when it has to do with the movie industry, people start crying foul.
If a director likes an actress, he should express his feelings to her and if she likes him too, they can go ahead to do whatever they please. Even if the feeling is not mutual, that shouldn’t cause any acrimony. It must not be under compulsion.”
