England vs Nigeria: Why supporters booed Dele Ali in Super Eagles’ 2-1 loss to Three Lions
Nigerian-born England midfielder, Dele Ali was booed for the entire duration of the international friendly game between the Super Eagles and the Three Lions of England on Saturday.
Ali, born to a Nigerian father, got several calls to switch allegence to his fatherland having played for the England youth team.
He, however, shunned Nigeria and pitched his tent with England where he grew up.
Ali got the pay back from the Nigerian supporters who reminded him of the snub when he was started by Gareth Southgate in the 2-1 win against Gernot Rohr’s men on Saturday.
The 21-year-old was booed at the touch of the ball for as long as he lasted in the game.
Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi pulled one back for Nigeria early in the second half after Gary Cahil and Harry Kane gave the home side 2-0 lead in the first half.
Nigeria will face Czech Republic in their next warm up game before flying to Russia for the 2018 World Cup proper.
