EXECUTIVE Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, has said that some Nigerian universities can now compete favourably with global universities.
Speaking at the Babcock University’s 15th graduation ceremony where 89 students graduated with first class honours, Rasheed, said: “Our university system is highly standardised and can compete favourably across the world.”
The NUC scribe who was represented by the Director of Corporate Services, Mrs. Constance Goddy-Nnadi, explained that the successful conduct of heart surgeries in Babcock was a clear indication some of our universities can compete globally. You will recall in October 2015 that Babcock University successfully performed its first heart surgery which lasted six hours.
Rasheed, however, called on the alumni of the institution to be at the forefront of forging partnerships for the school to reach its academic feat.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, lauded the university for its strides in the education and health sectors, adding that Ogun State where the institution is situated would work to create the right ambience needed for the education sector to thrive.
He said: “These children will define our future and we will adequately equip our youths. I urge you to be self-reliant and steadfast. Academic qualifications are not all that you need to succeed in life. Morals and character matter. Be ready to make positive difference because one day, we are going to answer the call of God.”
