Governor shuts down major road in Akwa Ibom after it collapsed during heavy rainfall (Photos)

The Governor Gabriel Emmanuel Udom-led Akwa Ibom State Government has officially announced the immediate shutdown of Hospital Road, at Midim, in Abak Local Government Area of the state for urgent intervention and rehabilitation.

The state’s Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen gave the order when he paid an unscheduled visit to inspect the road which has collapsed to the pressures of a devastating gully erosion by the Obot Street intersection.

The Works Commissioner who conveyed the concern of Governor Udom Emmanuel to the residents of Abak in general and Midim village in particular, expressed worry that, the extent of damage is an existential threat to the inhabitants of the area and their property.

He blamed the collapse on poor drainage system, harping that, this is reason Governor Udom Emmanuel has directed that no road constructed under his watch will be done without requisite drainage to receive water and the proper channeling to an outfall which will pose no danger to the community or damage to the road.
