Two women tried to suffocate an elderly man with a plastic bag in his home during a four hour torture ordeal.
Megan Stafford and Amy Squires kicked and stabbed their terrified 78-year-old victim while they drank his booze.
The pair knocked the man unconscious with a metal ornament and he fell into a pool of blood.
They then both fell into an alcohol-induced sleep, the Manchester Evening News reports.
This allowed their victim to escape by crawling out of the house and raising the alarm.
Police who raced to the home found both women still fast asleep on the victim’s couch.
Appearing at Minshull Street Crown Court, Stafford, 28, and Squires, 27, both from Ashton-under-Lyne, were each handed 13-and-a-half year jail sentences after admitting attempted murder.
They had broken into the home of the 78-year-old man in the Hurst area of Ashton-under-Lyne in the early hours of October 30 last year.
At about 4am the victim was woken by a noise in his living room.
