Theresa May is set to become the UK’s next prime minister after Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the contest to become Conservative Party leader.
David Cameron chairs his final cabinet meeting as prime minister Tuesday, to make way for Mrs May. After he announced his resignation following UK referendum to Leave the European Union, Camron’s future had hinged on the Brexit vote.
Mrs May will now choose her cabinet team, which will have a tough task of negotiating Britain’s exit from European Union. She will become the second female UK prime minister, after the late Margaret Thatcher.
Theresa May has been the Home Secretary since 2010, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidenhead since 1997.
Mrs May is expected to make a public statement, at about 18:00 BST, according to BBC.
