15-year-old boy arrested in connection with TalkTalk hacking

UK Metropolitan police say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Northern Ireland over the hacking of the telecoms company TalkTalk.

The UK phone and internet broadband provider was hacked last week leaving millions of customers at risk. The firm’s websites suffered cyber attacks at least three times in the past year, allowing criminals to capture names, email addresses, account numbers and bank details.

TalkTalk in a recent update to its customers said,

TalkTalk can confirm that we have been informed by the Metropolitan Police of the arrest of a suspect in connection with the cyber attack on our website on 21st October 2015. We know this has been a worrying time for customers and we are grateful for the swift response and hard work of the Police. We will continue to assist in the ongoing investigation.”

The boy was arrested in County Antrim at about 4.20pm on Monday by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), working with detectives from the Metropolitan police’s cybercrime unit (MPCCU).
