A Magistrate Court sitting in Owo local government area of Ondo State has sentenced a 28 year old man, Edward Odimayomi to seven years imprisonment for raping a minor.
Edward was accused of raping a nine year old girl at Abuja Camp in Ipele, a community in Owo Local Government Area of the state in September, 2014.
The convict, who had initially pleaded not guilty to the allegations leveled against him, urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
However, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Edu Owolabi told the court that the offence committed by Odimayomi was contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
He urged the court to follow the provisions of the constitution and other relevant laws of the land to deal with Odimayomi.
In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Anjola Ayeni who said she was convinced that the accused person committed the offence sentenced Odimayomi to seven years imprisonment with hard labour.
She said the judgment was a punishment, which will serve as deterrent to other devilish youths in the state.
