150 Pilgrims feared dead in Mecca stampede

Authorities in Saudi Arabia say at least 150 people have been killed and 390 injured in a crush at Mina, outside the holy city of Mecca, where 2 million people are performing the annual hajj pilgrimage.

Pilgrims who spent the night in the plain fields of Muzdalifa, began trooping to the Jamarat as early as 3am local time.

Hundreds more were injured, civil defence officials said. Aid workers are currently conveying corpses and injured pilgrims to hospitals.
