Police nab UNIILORIN student for fraud

An undergraduate of the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, Tope Oni accused of using fake bank draft and manipulated SMS alerts to dupe car dealers in Ibadan has been arrested.
While parading the suspect on Thursday at the Oyo State Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Eleyele, Ibadan, the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina said that the Ambush Squad of the Command arrested the suspect during an attempt to defraud one Monsuru Buhari.
Katsina said that Buhari who was a car dealer at the Mokola area of Ibadan had alerted police when he suspected a foul play in the course of his transactions with the young man.
The police boss said, “we have decided to redirect our operations in not just to identify them, but to deal with them decisively. It was in one of our operational duties that we had encounter with Tope Oni.
“Our Ambush Squad came to the rescue of Buhari after alerting us about Tope, whom he suspected was a fraudster. After our findings, we discovered his fraudulent acts”, he said.
27-year old suspect, while speaking to newsmen, said he was introduced into the fraudulent business last year after his failed attempts to be gainfully employed to pay his tuition while in school. “I started this business last year through a friend that introduced me into it. I have so far duped many car dealers.”
Katsina however said that a counter-foil deposit slip for the sum of N2.7m from Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) was recovered from the suspect.
