Workers in Osun State have confirmed that they have received 30 per cent of their November 2014 salary and full payment for December 2014.

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State, Jacob Adekomi, said on Tuesday that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has approved the payment of December 2014 salary to workers in the state.

Adekomi, who disclosed this at a press conference after a meeting with the government delegation, led by Chief of Staff, Gboyega Oyetola, added that the governor also approved the payment of the 30 per cent balance of November salaries of some workers who were yet to be paid in full.

The NLC boss, however, said workers would not suspend their strike despite the offsetting of one month’s salary out of seven months.

Head of Service, Osun State, Sunday Owoeye, also confirmed that workers had started receiving bank notification alerts for the payment of the salaries.

Owoeye said, “They are already receiving alerts for balance of November, and part of December 2014. A journey of 1,000 kilometres starts with one step. The man who removes a mountain starts by carrying stones away.”

However, Adekomi explained that most workers would not benefit much from the salary the state government has paid because their banks would deduct most of it for the repayment of loans and interest.
